Actually that's not true. I can see your logic but it's actually completely the opposite. Sony doesn't make money on Blu-ray players. They make money on Blu-ray disc sales and to some degree Blu-ray production. Blu-ray has struggled to gain consumer acceptance and contrary to the hype, has less than something like 15% of all video format sales.

Sony would love nothing more than to have 70 million Blu-ray players out there - in the form of Xbox 360 consoles. But the fact of the matter is, why would Microsoft support such an effort? How would this benefit Microsoft? Should Microsoft simply spend all the R&D money necessary to engineer, test, and distribute a Blu-ray player that only a fraction of it's user base would buy, would cost them a ton of cash, deviate from it's vision of online video delivery... and in the end, only benefit one company - SONY - in the form of greater Blu-ray disc sales?

That's not going to happen. The fact is, if people want a Blu-ray player, they can go buy one for as little as $99. Xbox 360 games DO NOT NEED THE 25/50GB OF STORAGE of Blu-ray as I documented factually in another post. There's simply no reason to make the investment.

And it's proven out to be true. For the last 4 months now, IDC's numbers have shown Xbox 360 outselling both Sony Playstation 3 & Nintendo Wii COMBINED each month.

Blu-ray doesn't matter. No matter how much uber-techies or Blu-ray-philes want to believe it does. And Microsoft was smart enough to recognize that a while back, saving Xbox 360 owners the costs of another HD-DVD fiasco.

No, the copy protection allocation is not replicated to the hard drive when copied, so I don't know what the reason for the 2.1GB was. I assume that there were lots of audio clips and video clips maybe... but I don't recall there being THAT much raw content. It's possible that the game was just simply poorly programmed because if I remember correctly, the game was developed in ADOBE FLASH. I'm not talking about the PC version, mind you. I mean the XBOX 360 version was in Flash I think. As in there was some sort of Flash interpreter running on the Xbox 360 I guess. (This is based on the credits that roll) And again, maybe the content format used by this variant of Flash is not very compression friendly. Like I said, I'm just hypothesizing.

Yeah, it's amazing what is available on the Internet these days. Which has me trying to figure out what the implications of that are. I mean, if something so esoteric as the "Super Spectacular Day" record from 1980 is posted on the Internet, how does that change how kids grow up? I ask because I was a kid when I had that record and played it on my parents turntable. And back then, if you wanted to buy something or you wanted to research something... odds are, it wasn't going to happen. Research was so difficult back then and libraries were weak sources of information. In the end, you just dealt with it. Nowadays, kids type in something into an search engine and BAM: It's there. Instant gratification. I personally had to dig up the info I posted about "Super Spectacular Day" and since then a lot of people have read my post... but now it's easily discoverable.

I guess I'm thinking a lot about this these days because I now have a kid of my own and he's going to be growing up in a world of cell phones, iPods, DVRs, laptops, and an unlimited resource called the Internet. And what I'm perceiving as the expectation of instant gratification. Because everything is so easily discovered these days.

I wonder if "Super Spectacular Day" would have been interesting to me back in the day with the Internet around, 'eh?

This popped into my head earlier, while doing dishes. I was 6 or 7 when this came out - my brother got the Mad Magazines. I somehow ended up with the disc, and I thought I reluctantly threw it out some time ago. I remember hovering it over the garbage can! I don't know which ending I heard the most, I remember the melody but not the lyrics. I couldn't believe it was so easy to find online!

Greetings Kurt,

Thanks for giving me hope. I purchased a Kindle for PC book titled the Perfect Health Diet but need to be able to mark it up significantly in order to study and master the material. Your technique is offering some light but I am not through the tunnel yet.

You recommended ActivePython/releases/2.6.6.15/ActivePython-2.6.6.15-win32-x86.msi . Your link to the product does not work (2012-02-01), so i went to the Active State site directly downloaded the product closest in version to your recommendation.
Python 2.6.6.1 or 2.6.6.15 was not listed so I took 2.5.6.10. The next highest version is 2.6.7.20. Perhaps i should try that. HOWEVER, your instructions do not indicate how or when to use the active python download in the process of converting the Kindle book.

I clicked on the "Unswindle_v7.pyw" and waited overnight as you had said that it was a bit slow. I tried it a few times but it has not launched the Kindle 1.01 Beta as you said it would. Am I missing a step?

Yeah, that's probably right. It's on the "ABOUT" page of http://killershrimp.com that Lee Michaels owns the restaurant and his son Kevin manages it. I've spotted him a couple times at the restaurant - he comes out to greet business execs & VIPs with reservations, I think. I once saw a couple come in that looked like something out of a day time soap opera (the guy had a scruffy, chiseled chin & made the women in the lobby swoon... the gal had an mindblowing figure that made even the most discreet guy leer uncomfortably) and he came out slowly to shake hands and say a few words while some business manager types came to escort them. He has orange designer glasses, flaming orange hair, and walks kind of like Ozzy Osbourne... with a demonstrable hunch and scuffles his feet quite a bit.

So yeah, it's likely true.

Upscale KS?!?! What a travesty! So glad to know you're well on the way to resolving the mystery. And sorry to drag you back in, but this may get so good, you might want to start one of your own!

One strange comment somewhere on the internet had said that orange hair guy was the '70s rocker Lee Michaels. Did you ever hear that?

Dammit, Arspoetice. You're making me get back into this quest and I'd thought I'd gotten out! Because I'm betting you're right. In fact, I think my wife is gonna facepalm for not thinking of this. Thanks for the input! Can't wait to try this now. (...gotta go buy more clam juice now...)

Here's the super-secret web site for the newly rebuilt Killer Shrimp:
http://killershrimp.com/
FYI: The place is MONSTROUS. It used to be a place called the Waterfront Restaurant before. It's about 14x the square footage of the original Killer Shrimp location and it's menu is far deeper than the original "Shrimp only" menu, now serving steaks and appetizers, as well as a full bar. (Instead of beer & iced tea) The original owner - the guy with orange hair (Kevin Michaels?) is still there.

One final note -- I usually rinse shrimp to death to get rid of any fishiness, but since the broth was still a bit off at this point, I just threw them in! Not swearing that it's the most sanitary approach, but in the spirit of full disclosure (really hating that one guy who refused to name his secret ingredient), I thought I'd better add that detail.

Okay, just finished putting the leftovers away after having spent the evening tweaking, my husband tasting the various alterations from my recommendations. We ended up adding:

2 T Worcestershire sauce
1 T lemon juice
1/2 tsp. paprika
1/4 tsp. oregano
1/4 cup butter (for a total of 3/4 cup - this also upped that savory element)

The most important outcome of these changes, we feel, was that the kitchen smelled like Killer Shrimp. We could close our eyes, picture ourselves in the Marina or Studio City. Perfect!

Let me know what you think. And thanks for all your incredible work in the search.
